Steep-Slope Roofing Systems
Providing Quality Steep-Slope Roofing Systems for Homeowners
There is a variety of steep-slope roofing system materials to choose from, depending on your budget and home style. But which steep-sloped roof meets your budget and home needs? Commonwealth Roofing Corp. can help you decide.
Low-sloped roofs can’t depend on water to flow in any particular direction, so the surface requires a watertight, monolithic membrane that stays watertight all the way to the drains or gutter edge. Steep-sloped roofs (like residential shingle roofs), on the other hand, depend on gravity to direct water to flow in a particular direction and “shed” over the roof’s breaks and fasteners in the shingles until it flows to the edge.
Steep-sloped roofing is generally less expensive, requires less maintenance, is more visually pleasing, and tends to last longer—longer than most low-sloped roofs.
A roof with a 4/12 pitch or higher will support a variety of products, such as shingle roofing, slate, or tile roofing. However, these systems cannot be used on low-slope roofs. Single-ply membrane or a built-up roof are also not applicable for most steep-slope roofing systems. Whether you need slate, tile, or shingles for your steep-sloped system, the Commonwealth experts provide you with a quality solution.
“The crew worked non-stop to install a new roof for our home and detached garage. They removed all the debris and swept the ground several times for nails with a magnetic device. Our contractor was very detailed in his survey of the needs of the replacement and was the advocate to get funds from the insurance company to cover our replacement. You will be thoroughly impressed with this company.”

With our team keeping up with the latest roofing technology and best practices, you get the best roofing solution available.
When it’s time for a new roof, we have strong relationships with nearly all major shingle brands, including GAF, Owens Corning, CertainTeed, and TAMKO. We are also experts in metal shingles and standing-seam, and we can even implement the classic old-world style thatch roofing system for your home or building.
Shingle roofing tiles are commonly used on homes because of their economic value and versatility. Equipped with sunlight- and weather-resistant features, shingle roofing material also requires limited maintenance.
Gone are the days of asphalt shingle roofs—homeowners are now turning to shingles made from a fiberglass mat. Fiberglass roofing shingles are more fire- and tear-resistant, last longer, and are the most budget-friendly. They are also thinner and lighter, making them easier to transport.
Slate roof systems require limited maintenance, give your home a sense of old-world charm, and can last a century or longer, depending on the type of slate used, roof style and shape, and weather in your region. In Louisville and southern Indiana, a wide variety of slate roofing can be found on residential, institutional, ecclesiastical, and government buildings. Slate roof systems are used where longevity is an especially important consideration.
Our experienced team has created and repaired slate roofs for buildings and homes of all shapes, sizes, and ages. From restoring historical slate roofs to putting them on new buildings, Commonwealth is the slate roof expert.
We also have extensive experience in repairing and maintaining tile roof systems. As certified contractors in Kentucky for more than 40 years, we’ve seen considerable inventory of quality tile roofs. Some of these roofs are approaching a century old and are still functioning. However, tile roof systems do require maintenance, especially with the underlayment, flashings, and valleys. Our unique RoofSmart™ maintenance program can handle all of your tile roof system needs, ensuring your system lasts for years to come.
